When you're thinking about buying a swimming pool, ask people you know what they like about theirs, and what they would do differently.

1. You'll want to backwash your filter every 7-10 days and keep the skimmer and pump baskets clean.
2. Vacuum the bottom for 30 minutes, once a week.
3. The only chemicals you need are 3" chlorine tablets, baking soda, shock (at start-up or after heavy rain) and clarifier.
4. Use Formula 409 or a non-abrasive cleaner on stains or scum line. For stubborn stains, use auto polishing compound.
5. Freezing will not hurt your fiberglass pool, so you can keep it full and running through the winter.
6. Once a year, drop the water level six inches and wax from the water line up and across the top with a good grade auto wax.
